Farland's four goals help to lead women's lacrosse past Bard, 14-4

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – The Union College women's lacrosse team scored five goals over a period of 3:14 early in the first half and cruised to a 14-4 Liberty League victory over Bard College on Friday afternoon.

Bard (6-9, 0-7 Liberty League) scored twice after falling behind 5-0, but the Dutchwomen scored five more goals before the half to take a 10-2 lead into the break.

With the victory, Union moves into a tie for third place in the Liberty League with William Smith at 4-2. The Herons lost to Vassar, 10-9, on Friday. Union, 6-5 overall, has a game at Vassar on Saturday with playoff implications.

Ten different players scored for Union, led by freshman Jessica Farland, who had four goals, and sophomore Emily McGrail, who scored twice. Union had an edge in draw controls (13-6), ground balls (21-15) and shots (22-6). Sophomore keeper Kim Grinhaus made two saves. Maddy Huggins (Mukilteo, WA) made six saves for Bard.

Maggie Comiskey and Ciara Dudeck had a goal and two assists for Union, while Heather Fraser, Brittany Fraser, Haley Gould, Courtney Berg, Laura Pacheco and Kim Seckler all scored a goal for the Dutchwomen.

Union will play tomorrow night at Vassar at 7 p.m.
