ROCHESTER, NY -- The Union College women's soccer team, coming off an NCAA playoff season, opened the 2013 campaign with a 1-0 victory over Endicott at the University of Rochester Tournament Saturday. It was the seventh time that Union opened a season with a victory.
The Dutchwomen got the only goal they needed when
Mollie Gilchrist scored on a header at 82:37.
Caroline Gorka fed Gilchrist with a lofted 30 yard pass to produce the only score of the game.
At 40:55 Union almost had the first goal of the game. Endicott goallkeeper Katie Donnolly made a diving stop on a header by Gilchrist. Union goalkeeper
Allison Brustowicz kept it scoreless earlier in the contest. Endicott's Laura Wysocki's hard shot was stopped and Brustowicz and she also made the save on the shot off the rebound by Shelby McLenithan moments later.
Union outshot Endicott, 10-6. Donnolly made five saves and Brustowicz made three stops. Union had the advantage in corners, 4-3.
The Dutchwomen play the host Yellowjackets in Rochester Sunday at 10 a.m.
