SCHENECTADY, NY -- Allison Troy and
Nicole Merigliano scored to lead the Union College field hockey team to a 2-0 non-league win over visiting Ramapo College at Frank Baiely Field Wednesday night. The Dutchwomen snapped a six game losing streak to improve to 2-6, while the Roadrunners are now 0-8.
The Dutchwomen outshot the Roadrunners, 30-12, and had 11 corners to Ramapo's seven. Emily Kramer made 13 saves in the contest for Ramapo while
Molly McCune stopped three for Union in the shutout.
Union dominated the first half with 20 shots while allowing just two. Union had six of the seven corners in the first half. Kramer kept Union at bay despite the many home opportunities. Troy had three straight shots with 15:21 left in the half, with the first two stopped and the third just wide. Troy finally broke the ice at 30:59 with her first of the season. After a shot rebounded out in front of the right of the net, Troy sent it in for the 1-0 Union lead.
In the second half the Roadrunners and Dutchwomen each had 10 shots, but Union got an insurance goal from Merigliano. The senior scored her third of the season at 67:23, when she took a pass from
Danielle Melia and had a high drive into the right top of the cage.
Union returns to action October 2 for another non-league contest, this one at Elms at 6:00 p.m.
