Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Bickford scores winner as Dutchwomen down Bard, 1-0

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – Junior Whitney Bickford converted a penalty kick in the 29th minute, and it proved to be enough as the Union College women's soccer team defeated Bard College, 1-0, in a Liberty League game on Saturday afternoon. The Dutchwomen improved to 3-3 overall, 1-1 in the Liberty League. Bard is 4-4-1, 0-1.

Union had the better of the possession early in the game, and the game-winner came after the second of consecutive corner kicks in the 29th minute. A scramble in front of the Bard goal ended when a hand ball was called in the box, and Bickford made the PK, beating freshman Lily Harris to the far post. At halftime, Union had a 9-2 edge in shots.

Bard has one good opportunity to score just five minutes into the second half when sophomore Margot Kalach Hanono ran onto a cross from sophomore Sylvia Kool, but junior keeper Allison Brustowicz smothered the attempted shot a fraction of a second after Hanono touched it.

Shots on goal in the second half were 4-3 in favor of Union. Brustowicz made three saves. The Dutchwomen will next host Clarkson on Friday afternoon at 4. Harris made six saves, and Kelsey O'Brien made four saves for Bard, which will host Rochester Institute of Technology on Friday afternoon at 4.
