SCHENECTADY, NY -- Junior forward Caroline Malone scored with just 3:31 remaining in regulation to lift Babson College to a 1-0 non-league field hockey victory over host Union College at Frank Bailey Field Tuesday afternoon.

The Beavers improved to 2-0 on the young season while the Duchwomen fell to 1-2.

Julia Pochini found Malone in front, just behind the defense, and she backhanded the eventual game winner into the cage. It was her second goal of the season. Union had a glistening opportunity with just over two minutes remaining when Nicole Merigliano raced in alone from the right side but goalkeeper Kayla Florence came charging out and directed the ball out of harm's way.

Morgan Lockwood had seven of the Beavers' 14 shots and Malone added three shots. Babson had a 14-12 shot advantage on the day. Union had four shots from Merigliano and three each from Ali Flake and Allison Troy. Molly McCune made five saves while Florence stopped four shots. The Beavers recorded 14 corners while the Dutchwomen had eight corners.

Union is on the road Saturday at William Paterson, and returns home September 11 to host Drew at 6 p.m.
