SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY -- Tanner Brooks scored 20 of his game-high 24 points before halftime to propel the Skidmore College
men's basketball team to a 103-58 blowout against Union College in a Liberty League matchup, Saturday at the Williamson Sports Center.
Terell Winney led Union with 11 points while
Deshon Burgess and
William Hython scored nine points each. Brooks went 6-of-9 from three-point range in the first half and also added a game-high seven rebounds and five assists. Erik Sanders scored 19 points on 9-of-12 shooting, Aldin Medunjanin contributed 14 points, eight assists and seven rebounds.
The Dutchmen (5-7, 2-2) got on the board first with a layup from
Ryan Whelpley, but the Thoroughbreds built a 20-point lead midway through the first. Brooks tallied 20 points for Skidmore in that stretch, going 6-of-7 from three-point range. The Thoroughbreds continued to dominate for the remainder of the first half, outscoring the Dutchmen 17-9 and carrying a 51-25 lead into halftime.
The second half proved to be more of the same as Skidmore opened the half on a 13-5 run capped by a Merrill 3-pointer, making the lead 64-30 with 16 minutes to play. Hot shooting down the stretch helped the Thoroughbreds pull away for the 103-58 win.
Skidmore shot 58.7-percent (37-63) from the field for the game, going 19-of-29 in the second half.
Union plays at RIT in Liberty League play Tuesday night.
