SCHENECTADY, NY -- McKenna Reynolds scored a goal and added an assist to lead the William Paterson field hockey team to a 3-1 non-league victory over Union College at Frank Bailey Field Saturday afternoon. The Pioneers improved to 6-8 while the Dutchwomen stand 5-8.
Prior to the final home game of Union's regular season,
Hannah Najar and
Allison Troy were honored for Senior Day.
William Paterson had a slim 16-15 shot advantage, but the Dutchwomen outshot the guests, 12-3 in the second half. The Pioneers had seven corners to Union's six. Meg Davies made eight saves for her second shutout of the season, while
Laura Aptowitz made five stops for Union.
Courtnaey Chelf opened the scoring for William Paterson at 7:54. She picked up direct rebound five yards out in front and put it in the net for her sixth score of the season. Angelica Giammetta made it 2-0 at 14:28. Reynolds sent a pass from the right of the net to the middle, where Giammetta shot from around 10 yards out for her fifth of the year. With 1:15 left in the first half, Davies made a strong right pad kick save off a bid from Troy. It was 2-1 at the half.
Laura Pacheco got the Dutchwomen on the board at 53:05.
Alexa Steriti took a corner and Pacheco got the feed from 12 yards out and scored her fifth of the fall to pull the Dutchwomen to within one at 2-1. But Reynolds added insurance just 5:47 later. Carly Slatter passed from the far right side and found Reynolds in close, and she tucked in her fifth goal of the season for the 3-1 score.
Union closes out Liberty League regular season play next weekend with games at Skidmore Friday and St. Lawrence Saturday.
