ANNANDALE-0N-HUDSON, NY -- The Union College women's basketball team started the second half with a 9-0 run and made 21-of-24 foul shots en route to a 68-54 victory over Bard in a Liberty League game on Friday night.
Union is 14-7 overall, 6-6 in the Liberty League. Bard fell to 1-21, 0-13.
Both teams shot the ball well in the first half (each at 46 percent), but Bard went 5-for-10 from beyond the three-point line to grab a 35-31 lead at the break.
The Dutchwomen had solid defense in the second half, as they limited Bard to 19 points and 21 percent from the floor.
Four players scored in double figures for the winners, led by sophomore
Cailin Schmeer, who had 14.
Amy Loya added 12,
Kate Thompson had 11, and freshman
Natalie Leone added 10 points and shared the rebounding lead with Loya at six.
Union next plays at Vassar on Saturday at 2 p.m. then caps three straight road games at William Smith Tuesday. The game Saturday at Vassar is the fourth in five days for Union.
