Lundberg stops 27 in Dutchwomen loss

CANTON, N.Y. – Union College junior goaltender Shenae Lundberg made 27 stops in the Dutchwomen's 4-0 loss to St. Lawrence on Friday night at Appleton Arena. With the loss, the Dutchwomen drop to 9-22-2 overall and 4-17-0 in league play.

Lundberg made a game high 12 saves in the second period and allowed only one power play goal on the Saints two attempts.
Kayla Raniwsky opened the scoring for the Saints with a power-play goal just over seven minutes into the first period when she redirected a Jenna Marks shot just inside the far post and past Lundberg.

With the Saints cycling down low, Heidersbach came out of the right corner with the puck and carried into the right circle and hit Marks with a cross-ice feed. Marks sent a wrister towards goal for Raniwsky, who was screening Lundberg in front and would give the Saints a 1-0 lead.

Midway through the second period, the Saints extended the lead to 2-0 on Heidersbach's first tally of the night. Skating into the Union zone on a two-on-one, Rylee Smith threaded a pass between the defender's skates and Lundberg's right pad through the crease to Heidersbach who touched the puck inside the far post for the score. Brooke Webster also assisted on the play, as she pushed the puck to Smith for the breakout before jumping off for a change.

Seven minutes into the final frame Heidersbach notched her second goal on a snapshot from the bottom of the right circle, beating Lundberg high over her left shoulder. Kirsten Padalis assisted on the goal after winning a battle on the half-wall, as did Webster.

The fourth Saints goal came off the stick of Dayle Wilkinson, after she pinched to pick up an errant pass at the top of the right circle and carried along the wall before snapping a wrister from just below the faceoff dot. Marks and Mel Desrochers were credited with the assists.

The Dutchwomen close out the 2013-14 season tomorrow afternoon when they travel to Clarkson for a rematch with the fourth ranked Golden Knights at 4 p.m.
