CLERMONT, FL -- The Union College softball team had plenty of offense and pitching in a pair of five inning victories Sunday night in Florida. The Dutchwomen defeated Hamilton, 14-2 in five innings, and followed that up with an 11-0 five inning win over Carleton. Union is 3-1.
In the opener,
Aimee Palleschi and
Dani Hennel each had three hits and scored three runs, while Allison Staats had two hits and five runs batted in. Staats also allowed just five hits in the shutout victory over the Continentals. She struck out three and did not walk a batter.
Alyssa Wolejko had a pair of hits and two RBIs. Union scored four runs in each of the final three innings.
In the nightcap, Wolejko gave us five hits in the shutout while striking out six. She did not allow a runner past second base and did not walk a batter. Union had 15 hits against the Knights, featuring two each from Palleschi, Wolejko, Staats and
Joanna Chalifoux. Wolejko drove in three runs. Union exploded at the plate in the second with seven runs on five hits in the second inning.
On Monday the Dutchwomen will face Luther and Buffalo State.
