BALTIMORE --
Jake Quinn scored 55 seconds into overtime to lift 11th-ranked Union to an 8-7 victory over Williams in a neutral site, non-conference game held on the campus of UMBC. The victory was Union's sixth straight of the season as
Paul Wehrum's squad improved to 6-1.
The game produced five lead changes, as Williams came out on top in the shots department (42-30), forcing Union goalkeeper
Stefan Basile into 15 saves.
After trading goals for most of the first half, Union went up 6-3 for its largest lead of the game when
Richard Gregory received a pass from
Peter Richardson and buried a shot with 3:15 left in the third quarter. Gregory finished with a pair of goals, as did
Nolan Stauffer while senior
Rob Santangelo compiled four points (1-3), assisting on the game-tying and game-winning goals.
Williams (5-2) stormed back with four straight goals in the fourth quarter, taking a 7-6 lead on Tanner MacIvor's second goal of the game with 7:52 left on the clock. That set up a dramatic goal from
Tom Stanton, playing in just his second game of the season. Stanton found the back of the net with 1:46 left in regulation to force overtime.
Union will meet 16th-ranked St. Lawrence in the Liberty League opener this Saturday at Frank Bailey Field.
