Hagopian, McGrail score three each in 12-11 loss to Ithaca


SCHENECTADY, NY -- Ally Runyon scored with 4:31 remaining in regulation to lift Ithaca College to a 12-11 non-league women's lacrosse win over Union College at Frank Bailey Field Tuesday afternoon. The Bombers evened their season record to 4-4 whie the Dutchwomen fell to 4-3.

Runyon scored three goals as did Niki Stendera, while Riley Marion and Emily Peters each tallied twice. Molly Fischer and Morgan Cadwell also scored, while Emily Ross made eight saves in the visiting net. Ithaca had a 27-26 shot advantage and forced 12 turnovers.

Union was led by Jackie Hagopian and Emily McGrail, who each scored three goals. Maggie Comiskey and Ciara Dudeck scored twice each and Haley Gould added a single score. Jen Hughes made eight saves for the Dutchwomen, who had a 16-14 ground ball advantage and scored on two of four free position shots.

Union opened the scoring on a Hagopian gola just 1:04 into the contest. Ithaca tied it and took the lead with two straight goals by Standera, who tied it at 27:01 and then scored her ninth of the season at 20:30. Dudeck notched her ninth just 25 seconds later to tie it at 2-2, but the Bomber regained the lead at 17:12 from Peters. Union then scored three straight featuring Dudeck at 15:43, Gould at 11:07 and McGrail with 8:06 left for a 5-3 Union lead. Marion closed out the scoring for the Dutchwomen with 6:39 left to play in the first half, pulling the Bombers closer before the half ended at 5-4.

After Fishcer opened the scoring to tie it at 5-5 3:36 into the second half, Comiskey gave Union the lead at 6-5 with 24:59 left. But the Bombers scored five straight in aspan of 5:11, as Marion, Runyon, Peters, Cadwell and Standera made it 10-7 with 18:00 left. Back came Union, with goals by Comiskey and McGrail then goals by Hagopian with 11:18 and 10:24 left to knot it at 10-10. Runyon's 23rd score at 10:16 provided an 11-10 lead for the guests, but McGrail's 23rd goal of the year with 9:00 had it tied up at 11-11 where it stood until the eventual winner by Runyon (her 24th goal on the season).

Union returns to Liberty League play this weekend with games at Skidmore Friday and at RPI Saturday.
