Dutchwomen claim victory on senior day



SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Union College women's lacrosse team said goodbye to four seniors in their 16-11 win over Vassar on Saturday afternoon at Frank Bailey Field. The Dutchwomen improved to 7-4 and 5-1 in Liberty League action while Vassar dropped to 7-4 and 2-3 in Liberty League play.
 
Seniors Juliette Larzelere, Ali Feldman, Kim Seckler and Micaela DeSimone were honored in a pregame ceremony. The four seniors played in their final regular season home games of their collegiate careers.
 
Emily McGrail had one of the best games of her career, tallying six goals and four assists for ten points. Ciara Dudeck (four goals) and Maggie Comiskey (three goals and two assists) also had big games. Other goal scorers included Jessica Farland, Hayley Gould and Laura Pacheco.
 
Vassar jumped out to an early lead, tallying four goals in the first ten minutes. Union responsed by going on a four goal tear of their own. Ciara Dudeck tallied a hat trick over nine minutes of play while Emily McGrail tallied the last goal. Phoebe Tzanes and Leigh Anne Baldwin tallied to give the Brewers a 6-4 lead in the final minutes of the first half before a pair of goals by Maggie Comiskey and Jessia Farland in the final 90 seconds knotted the game at 6 heading to halftime.
 
McGrail tallied her second of the day to open up the second of the day to open up the scoring in the second half. Pacheco widened the lead to 8-6 at the 28:10 mark before two Dara Davis tallies two goals to tie the game once again. The Dutchwomen and Brewers traded goals once again to knot the game at nine. The Dutchwomen then went on a three goal tear after a pair of goals by McGrail and a fourth tally for Dudeck.
 
Freshman goalkeeper Jen Hughes picked up her seventh win of the season while making eight saves on 24 shots faced.
 
Union held the advantage in shots (32-24), ground balls (19-13), draw controls (18-11) and turnovers (13-12). Vassar held the advantage in clears (8-12), free-position shots (2-5) and saves (12-8).

Union returns to action on Tuesday when they travel to Middelbury for matchup at 5:30 p.m.
