Union rallies in second half in win over Rochester



ROCHESTER, N.Y. - Union College used a 7-1 run over the first 19 minutes of the second half to rally past the University of Rochester, 13-9, in women's lacrosse at Edwin Fauver Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
 
The victory boosts the Dutchwomen to 9-5 overall, 7-1 in the Liberty League. Union remains tied with William Smith College for second place in the league standings. Rochester is 5-7 overall, 1-6 in the Liberty League.
 
Emily McGrail led Union with three goals and two assists. Maggie Comiskey had two goals and two assists. Jackie Hagopian and Ciara Dudeck scored three goals apiece. Natalie Sullivan scored one goal and set up another. Jessica Farland had one goal and Haley Gould added an assist.
 
For Rochester, Danielle Diacovo scored three goals. Jamie Wallisch scored two goals and assisted on a third. The Yellowjackets got single goals from Cassie mahar, Elisabeth Watson, Mara Karpp, and Kathryn Maisch. Sarah Skinner had one assist.
 
In goal, Union's Jen Hughes allowed nine goals and made nine saves. Maire Prosak had four saves for Rochester and allowed 13 goals.
 
Hagopian scored goals 2:21 apart early in the second half to key the Union rally. She put the Dutchwomen ahead to stay at 7-6,  turning home a pass from Sullivan with 24:26 left. She made it 8-6 with 22:05 left on Haley Gould's assist.
 
Rochester opened with a flurry, scoring four goals in the first 12 minutes – from Diacovo, Wallisch, Mahar (assisted by Wallisch), and Watson. McGrail's pass found Dudeck at 15:52 to trim the Rochester lead to 4-2. The teams were scoreless for more than 10 minutes. Farland scored with 5:18 left (4-3 Rochester). Wallisch answered with 3:16 left in the half (5-3) before Hagopian made it a one-goal game (2:46 to go), 5-4 at the break.
 
McGrail evened the score at 5-all 52 seconds into the second half. Karpp scored from the free position to give Rochester its last lead, 6-5, with 27:18 to play. Sullivan equalized and that started a 6-0 run that ended with McGrail netting her 50th goal of the season off Comiskey's pass with 10:47 to play (11-6 Union).
 
Union held a narrow lead on draw controls won with 12. McGrail and Kate Kurchena won three each.  The Dutchwomen collected 21 ground balls, five by Micaela DeSimone and four by Hagopian.

Rochester won 11 draws. Kathryn Maisch won four. The Yellowjackets collected 21 ground balls. Lauren Basil and Skinner each had four.

The Dutchwomen close out the season next Saturday by traveling to William Smith to engage in the battle for second place in the Liberty League at 6 p.m.
