Peretti and Bradlee spark offense; Dutchmen take down Pioneers



SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The senior duo of David Peretti and Joe Bradlee combined for six runs batted in in the Dutchmen's 11-4 win over Utica on Wednesday afternoon at Central Park. With the win the Dutchmen improve to 9-4-1 on the season while the Pioneers drop to 3-8. 

Peretti went 2-4 with 2-4 with two stolen bases and a run scored. Bradlee went 3-5 with a stolen base. Fellow senior Sam Caruso also had a big day going 3-5 with two RBIs, three runs scored and was only a home run away from the cycle. Freshman infielder Kent Curran had three hits and an RBI while sophomore outfielder Justin Lloyd also had two hits.

The Dutchmen jumped out to an early 4-0 lead through the first three innings and didn't look back. Their biggest inning of the day came in the eighth when they tacked on four insurance runs on four hits.

Senior pitcher Andrew Beaule earned his first win of the season while striking out three over six innings and allowing three runs, one of them earned. Junior Chris Pignatello threw two innings of hitless relief work in the seventh and eighth innings while striking out two batters. Freshman Jake Fishman closed the game in the ninth inning by allowing one run and striking out two.

Union recorded its second best offensive performance of the season by turning in 11 runs on 15 hits, four of which were extra base hits. The Dutchmen had a tough time in the field, committing six errors.

The Dutchmen return to action on Saturday when they travel to Troy to take on cross-town rival RPI in a 1 p.m. double-header.
