NORTH ADAMS, MA – Curry College scored a first-half goal to edge Union College, 1-0, at the CAIO Classic hosted by the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA).
Nick Gilman scored his first goal of the season at the 14:07 mark for Curry (4-0), accepting a through pass from Matt Cotnoir and tucking a shot from 12 yards out into the lower right corner pass goalkeeper
Ryan Carter. Union (2-1) had their chances to counter as the Dutchmen finished with a 20-8 advantage in total shots, strengthened by 11 corner kicks but was unable to convert.
Johnson was named Defensive Most Valuable Player of the tournament. The "U" played the last 25 minutes with 10 players after a red card was issued to the Dutchmen in the 65th minute. Offensively,
Jeff Guinn's squad was led by
Carl Faber (six shots) and
Tyler DeWaltoff (five shots).
Union will host SUNY Brockport on Wednesday (Sept. 10) at 7 p.m. at College Park Field.
