SCHENECTADY, NY -- Caroline Dalton scored a game high 20 points and Kara McDuffie had a double-double with 11 points and a game high 16 rebound as St. Lawrence downed Union, 63-54 at the Viniar Athletic Center Saturday afternoon. The Saints are now 6-3 and 1-1 in the Liberty League while the Dutchwomen are also 6-3 and 1-1.
McDuffie added five assists and Allison Cady had eight points with seven rebounds. Cara Waterson scored 11 for St. Lawrence, which shot 37% for the game. Lauren Quattrocchi had four assists and four steals for the Saints.
Union was led by
Jenni Barra, who scored 12 with three steals. Three players had 10 points each,
Natalie Leone,
Amy Fisher and
Erin Lyons.
Kate Thompson led the home team with nine rebounds and Leone had seven boards. Union had a 46-42 rebounding edge for the game and shot 31%.
The Saints had a three point advantage at halftime, 26-23. They started the second half with a 10-2 run for an 11 point lead at 36-25 with 14:27 left in the half. Union pulled to within two with a run of 12-1 over the next 4:38 making it 37-35. But it was 50-40 with 4:30 left for the Saints after two free throws by Waterson. Union got as close as six with 25 seconds left after three free throws by Barra, but the Saints put the game away at the line late with four free throws in the final seconds.
Union is at RPI Friday night at 6 p.m. before hosting Bard Saturday at 2 p.m.
