Union, RPI battle to 1-1 men's soccer tie

TROY, N.Y. - Sophomore Ethan Strauss scored the game-tying goal midway through the second half as the Union College men's soccer team (6-1-3, 0-0-2) extended its unbeaten steak to six matches by battling RPI (8-1-3, 1-1-2) to a 1-1 double overtime tie in Liberty League action on Wednesday night.

RPI took a 1-0 lead late in the first half when Brett Peyser scored his first goal of the season off a rebound. Union goalkeeper John Weitzman made the initial save and punched the ball away from the goal where Peyser settled the ball and scored with 3:15 left in the half.

It was only the fifth goal allowed by the Dutchmen in 10 games this season.
At 59:37, Strauss tied the game at 1-1 when he slipped a shot inside the right post and past RPI goalkeeper Ryan Nealon.

Union outshot RPI by a 17-10 margin.

Making his sixth start of the season, Weitzman faced 10 shots and allowed one goal while making five saves. Nealon made four saves for RPI while facing 17 shots.
