POTSDAM, MA -- A strong start for the Clarkson University Women's Lacrosse team would not hold up against Liberty League leader Union College on Saturday afternoon as the Dutchwomen raced past the Green and Gold in the second half for a 13-6 victory at Hantz Turf Field.
The Golden Knights battled Union to a 3-3 tie with just over 10 minutes remaining in the first half, but the Dutchwomen (9-3) scored late in the opening frame for a 4-3 advantage at the break and then outscored Clarkson 9-3 over the final 30 minutes to remain perfect in conference play with a 7-0 league mark.
Union set the pace early in the second half with goals by
Natalie Sullivan and
Ciara Dudeck three minutes in and scored three of the next four goals to hold a 9-4 lead with 16:26 to play. Clarkson got two back with goals by Ashley Flick and junior Christine Wright to cut the deficit to 9-6 with5:05 remaining, but the Dutchwomen sealed the road win by scoring the final four goals.
Wright paced the Clarkson offense with two goals and two assists. Emma Oliver, Emma Jeffery and sophomore Paige Fayette also scored for the Knights.
Emily McGrail scored a game-high four goals to lead Union.
Maggie Comiskey tallied five points, including four assists for the visitors.
Jessica Farland and Dudeck both scored three times.
Cailin Pandolfi rounded out the Union attack with a goal. The Dutchwomen outshot Clarkson 24-18, while the Knights held the edge in ground balls, 16-12.
Dani Tani made seven saves in the Clarkson goal, while
Kim Grinhaus posted nine stops for the Dutchwomen.
Union hosts rivals Rensselaer and Skidmore next weekend.
