Western New England wins non-league game, 41-14

SPRINGFIELD, MA -- Western New England's defense produced two turnovers that led to a pair of scores, sophomore quarterback Anthony Service threw for 213 yards, and the Golden Bears' offense piled up 532 yards of total offense in a 41-14 non-conference victory Saturday over Union College at Golden Bear Stadium.

Western New England begins the season 3-0 in back-to-back years for the first time in its NCAA history, while the Dutchmen fall to 0-3.

Service came off the bench to complete 10 of 16 passes for 213 yards and two touchdowns--his first going for 70 yards to Andy St. Fleur who ran into the end zone to help WNE tie the score 7-all with 7 minutes and 10 seconds left in the first half. Union had taken the lead when Connor Kinzelmann ran in from a yard with 13:18 left in the second quarter. Freshman quarterback Nick Cascione ran for his first career TD 22 seconds into the fourth quarter to proivde the other Union scoring.

Cascione was eight for 17 for 111 yards with the rushing TD and Kinzelmann ran for 44 yards on 16 carries with the touchdown. Kyle Reynolds and freshman Packy Brown each had four catches for 53 yards for the Dutchmen. Brian Alebiosu led the Dutchmen with nine tackles while Jake LaRovera had eight stops.

Nick Connell led he Golden Bears with 122 rushing yards on 18 carries with a TD. St. Fleur had 117 receiving yards on three catches with a touchdown and Mark Dietrich had 103 yards with a TD on eight receptions. Blair Cook made 10 tackles and Adam Glynn added eight for the Golden Bears.

Union returns home next week to open the Liberty League schedule against pre-season favorite St. Lawrence at 1 p.m. at Frank Bailey Field.
