SCHENECTADY, NY -- Alexa Steriti and
Sayyida Hasan scored to lead the Union College field hockey team to a 2-0 non-league win over Morrisville State Tuesday night at Frank Bailey Field. The Dutchwomen improved to 5-3 with their third win in the last four games, while the Mustangs now stand 1-7.
Union outshot the guests, 29-6, including 21-0 in the second half. The hosts also had 18 penalty corners whie Morrisville had eight. Liz Leva made 12 saves in the Mustang nets.
Laura Aptowitz recorded her first shutout of the season with two saves. The contest was scoreless at halftime, when the shots were just 8-6 Union. Steriti opened the scoring at 44:37 on a penalty stroke, shooting high above Leva for the 1-0 lead. It was Steriti's fifth of the season, which tied
Hannah Madden for the team lead. At 59:46,
Allison Cosentino passed to Hasan, who tucked in her second of the season to the goalie's right for the 2-0 score.
Union opened up a three game homestand with the victory. The Dutchwomen return to Liberty League play Saturday at 1 p.m. when they host Skidmore at Bailey Field.
