Borg scores 22 in 73-60 loss at RIT

ROCHESTER, NY – The RIT women's basketball team (10-2, 3-0 Liberty League) passed an early test, beating previous Liberty League leader Union (9-3, 4-1 Liberty League) 73-60 at Clark Gymnasium on Tuesday evening to remain perfect in conference play. RIT is one of two undefeated teams in Liberty League play (William Smith).

Amanda Olsen led all scorers with a career-high 25 points, shooting an impressive 10-for-12 from the field. Julia Bender scored 10 points, while adding five rebounds and three steals. The Tigers shot 42 percent from the field against the best defensive team in the Liberty League in Union, who came in allowing just 49.9 points per game, while holding teams to just 32.5 percent from the field.

Sophie Borg led the Dutchwomen with 22 points and nine rebounds. Both numbers were career highs. Natalie Leone added eight points and eight rebounds. Union had a four game winning streak and was off to the best start since 2003-04.

Union staked a 9-0 lead to open the game. Whitney Kent broke the RIT drought, getting the team's first points with 4:54 left in the quarter. From there, the Tigers stormed back. With seconds remaining in the opening period, Bender stole the ball as the outlet player who tried turned up court, laying the ball in the other way to end the period with RIT trailing, 17-16.

The Tigers began to take control afterwards, starting the second quarter with a 10-0 run, grabbing the lead for good. The Dutchwomen made a run in the second half, reducing the deficit to 46-39 midway through the third quarter. Union would get no closer, as RIT responded with a 12-2 run to pull away.

Union is at Bard for a Liberty League game Friday night at 6 p.m.
