Dutchwomen Fall in ECAC Loss to RPI

SCHENECTADY, NY—The Union College women's ice hockey team fell 3-0 to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute on Saturday afternoon at Messa Rink.

The Dutchwomen wore purple laces and purple tape in honor of the Mental Health Awareness Game.

Melissa Black tallied 29 saves in the game, placing her seventh in single-season saves with 770. Union outshot RPI 33-32, including 16-10 in the third.

In the first period, the Dutchwomen and Engineers stayed scoreless for the first seven minutes, until Josephine Hansen took a shot from behind the right circle and it rebounded to Jenn Godin who passed it to Katie Rooney who chipped it in from over Black's left side. Six minutes later, Alexa Gruschow popped one in over Black's shoulder off assists from Hannah Behounek and Whitney Renn to close the first period 2-0.

Sixteen minutes elapsed in the second period when Gruschow passed to Behounek from behind the left circle. Horwood took a shot to the left side of the net which slid in to put them up 3-0.

The third period was scoreless for both teams. 

The Dutchwomen go on the road for the second-half of conference play. They will take on Yale on January 22 at 7 p.m. in New Haven, Conn.
