Women's Hockey Loses Tight 2-1 Game Against Connecticut

SCHENECTADY, NY - Rachel de Perio recorded her first career point for the Union College women's hockey team when she netted the Dutchwomen's only goal on Saturday afternoon.

De Perio followed up a rebound by Bridgit Sullivan slotting past University of Connecticut goalkeeper Annie Belanger low stick side. The goal, assisted by Sullivan and Emily Erickson, put the Dutchwomen up 1-0 heading into the first intermission.

Union held the one goal lead for the majority of the second period before Justine Fredette put one past Kate Spooner to knot the game up at 1-1 just before the end of the second frame. Spooner, who made her debut in net, made 26 saves in the loss.

With the Huskies on the power play, Kayla Mee beat Spooner to put UConn up 2-1 with 18:40 remaining in the game. The Dutchwomen put on plenty of late pressure helped by a Huskie penalty, but Belanger turned all 11 Union shots in the third away securing the victory for Connecticut.

Union is back on the ice Tuesday when it plays host to University of Vermont. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at Messa Rink.
