ROCHESTER, NY - The Union College women's hockey team fell at the hands of RIT 2-0 in Rochester, NY Saturday afternoon.
For much of the first period, both sides were just feeling each other out as Union registered seven shots while the Tigers had just four.
RIT turned up the pressure on Dutchwomen goalkeeper
Kate Spooner. 14 shots found the frame for the Tigers including the opening goal scored by Kendall Cornine at the 10:23 mark of the second period. The goal was assisted by Caitlyn Wallace and Lindsay Stenason.
Nine into the third period, RIT would add to its lead as Jade Manacini converted on a powerplay opportunity at the assisted by Mallory Rushton and Tori Haywood. Mancini pushed the Tiger's advantage to 2-0.
Spooner made 25 saves in the losing effort for Union while the Dutchwomen were unable to convert on their four powerplay opportunities.
After winning by a score of 2-0 on Friday afternoon against RIT, the Dutchwomen were unable to find the back of the net. This is the first time this season that Union has been held off of the scoresheet.
Union is back on the ice Tuesday as it travels to Providence for a 7:00 p.m puck drop against the Friars.
