Box Score 2 SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY - After tallying a five set win over SUNY-Geneseo on Friday night, the Dutchwomen had a pair of games against SUNY-New Paltz and SUNY-Potsdam in the second day of the Skidmore Invitational in Saratoga Springs, NY
In the first match of the day, the Dutchwomen took on New Paltz who were coming off a five set win over Ithaca on Friday night. The Hawks would take an 16-9 advantage midway through the first before the Dutchwomen went on a 11-4 run to tie the set at 20 all. Neither team would take more than a one point advantage before two errors from New Paltz gave the first set to Union. The Hawks would come back to take the next two frames 25-23 and 25-17.
The Dutchwomen had to fight off a match point at 26-25 in the fourth set as they went on to rattle off the next three points in the set to send the match to a decisive fifth set. In the final match of the game, the Union offense hit .375 as
Emma Sprotbery,
Morgan Clark,
Alyssa Bonesteel and
Ally VanDoren all recorded kills in the set. It was Bonesteel who recorded the match clinching kill as Union beat New Paltz 15-10 to take the match. Sprotbery lead the team with 15 kills as VanDoren added 14 of her own. Moeller finished with a team high 31 digs while
Lauren Gibson recorded a career-high 24 digs in the win.
The second match featured a showdown with Potsdam who Union defeated earlier this season in three sets in the final game of the Union Tournament in September. Much like in that matchup, the Bears had trouble with the Dutchwomen serve as the initial pressure helped them grab the first two sets 25-17 and 25-16, respectively. Potsdam proved to be tough customers in the final set before Union closed out the set 28-26 to complete the sweep of the Bears.
Moeller earned MVP honors while
Amanda Price was named to the All-Tournament team honors as the Dutchwomen were the lone team to go 3-0 on the weekend.
Union will ride its eight game win streak into the Liberty League tournament. The Dutchwomen are the No. 3 seed will face No. 2 seed Clarkson University in the semifinal round of the tournament on Friday (Nov. 4) at 5:00 p.m. in Poughkeepsie, NY. Union finish the regular season with a record of 25-10.
