SCHENECTADY, NY -- Springfield College had 360 yards rushing in a 17-3 Liberty League victory over host Union College at Frank Bailey Field Saturday afternoon. The Pride improves to 2-1 in league play and evened the overall record to 3-3. The Dutchmen are 0-3 in the league and 1-5 overall.

Hunter Belzo had 11 carries for 103 yards including a late fourth quarter touchdown run of 44 yards. Jake Eglintine had 84 yards on 15 carries and Jordan Wilcox also rushed 15 times, for 81 yards. Dominic Traversa had nine tackles with a big fourth quarter interception, and Christian Zotti made eight stops for the Pride. Springfield had 22 first downs for the day.

Brian Alebiosu and Jake Lombardo each had a game high 13 tackles for Union, and Jack Harasimowicz had nine tackles. Justin Waller made two tackles for losses. Blake Geller was eight for 18 for 103 yards passing and Alex Kaplanovich had five catches for 82 yards.

It was a scoreless first quarter when Springfield took over on the Pride-14 yard line with 1:44 left. The drive featured two 15 yard penalties on the Dutchmen, who entered the game ranked #2 in NCAA Div. III in fewest penalties. On the eighth play of the drive, Blake Heller made a 38 yard field goal with 2:02 elapsed in the second quarter for a 3-0 Pride lead. But with 2:10 remaining in the half, Heller missed a 23 yard field goal attempt. It was the 16th play of an 84 yard drive that took 7:55.

The Dutchmen had a 10 play drive stop at the Springfield 29 with 5:25 left in the third. A third-and-10 from the Springfield 20 featured a sack from Tom Casey and Nick Giorgio, then a fourth-and-19 pass was incomplete.

Springfield made it 10-0 with 22 seconds to play in the third quarter. Tyler Hyde ran in from five yards out. The nine play, 71 yard drive that consumed 5:14 featured 26 rushing yards from Hyde. Jonathan Schaible hit a 29 yard field goal 54 seconds in the fourth quarter to put Union on the board and make it 10-3. The four play, six yard drive in 1:01 was set up by a 62 yard kick return by Connor Kinzelmann on the kick after the Pride touchdown.

The Pride took a 17-3 lead on a 44 yard touchdown run by Belzo with 5:42 left in the fourth. It was a four play, 62 yard drive in 2:01. On the next drive, Traversa intercepted a third down pass at the Springfield-19 and returned it 32 yards with just 3:38 to play.

Union has a bye next week, and returns to action to host Liberty League rival Rochester on October 22 at 1:30 p.m. Springfield hosts Rochester next Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
