Erin Lyons tied her career high with 10 rebounds as the Union College women's basketball team defeated The Sage Colleges, 64-51 Monday night at the Viniar Athletic Center. The Dutchwomen improved to 14-4 after the non-league win while the Gators fell to 16-3.
Sage had a 15 game winning streak snapped and lost for the first time since November 17 at Western Conn. State. Union remained undefeated at home, winning for the ninth time this season at the Viniar Athletic Center.
Katz made seven of nine shots and Lyons had nine of her rebounds on the defensive side to go with nine points.
Natalie Leone set a career high with a game best nine assists and
Sophie Borg scored 15 points with eight rebounds for the Dutchwomen. Union shot 57% for the game, including a 59% mark in the second half. The Dutchwomen also had a 45-29 rebounding advantage and kept Sage to 29% shooting for the game.
Freshman Emily Parslow led Sage with a game high 20 points, which included hitting six of the team's three pointers. She also added four steals and four rebounds. Genevieve Schoff and Kaitlyn Bowman scored nine points each and Schoff led the Gators with eight rebounds. Sage forced 30 turnovers and had 11 steals.
Union led 16-15 after the first period and 34-27 at halftime. After a three pointer by Parslow 59 seconds into the second half made it a four point game (34-30), Union went on a run. Over the next 4:21, Union went on a 10-2 run led by two points and three assists by Leone (44-32). Union also led by 12 after three periods, 48-36, holding the Gators to nine third quarter points. In the fourth, Sage got to within seven at 58-51 with 1:52 to play after another three by Parslow. But Union made four free throws down the stretch along with a basket for the 13 point final margin.
Union returns to Liberty League action Friday night at St. Lawrence at 6 p.m. Sage hosts Skyline rival St. Joseph's Wednesday at 6 p.m.
