Black Records 1000th Save, Dutchwomen Drop Decision to Dartmouth

SCHENECTADY, NY—Melissa Black of the Union College women's ice hockey team recorded her 1000th career/single-season saves tonight in a 3-1 loss to Dartmouth. Black is the first freshman to do so since the 2012-2013 season when a freshman at Lindenwood completed the task.

The Big Green started quickly as Caroline Shaunessy found the back of the net just 57 seconds into the first period. 13 minutes later, Union's Jacyn Reeves tied the game up as she took a shot from the left faceoff circle, it bounced up over Robyn Chemago's glove and into the back of the net. She was assisted by Brandy Streeter.

The teams entered the second tied at one. Union's Jamie Smith tried to net another one early, but it ricocheted off the post and out of the net. Just three minutes into the second period and Dartmouth's Kennedy Ottenbreit netted a pair of goals.

The Dutchwomen held the Big Green scoreless for the remainder of second period and entire third period. Black made 32 saves on the night while Chemago made 19. Neither team allowed a power-play goal.

The Dutchwomen return home for their last of the season at Messa Rink tomorrow when the celebrate Senior Day. Union faces Harvard when they take the ice at 4 p.m.
