POTSDAM, NY -- Deshon Burgess netted 29 points on 10-for-15 shooting as Union College held on for a 65-56 victory over the Clarkson University Men's Basketball team on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Gymnasium.

The Golden Knights dropped to 8-13 overall and 5-7 in the Liberty League while Union edged up to 10-10 and 7-5.

Clarkson jumped out to a modest lead in the early going, up by five after a Nick Colombo 3-pointer in the first few minutes and then up by eight by the midway point of the half, but Union countered with a 27-12 run to end the half. With Clarkson up by two late, DeShon Burgess buried a 3-pointer to spark a 9-0 run to give the Dutchmen a seven-point lead, the same margin with which they would end the first period. That run continued in the second half as Union scored started with a 9-1 run, capped off by a Matt Liquori 3-pointer at the 13:28 mark and it appeared as if the Dutchmen would cruise to a victory when they were up by 16 (50-34) just a few moments later. However, Clarkson rattled off seven straight to climb back into the game and the Knights were within nine after a Drew Zlogar 3-pointer with 9:23 to go. Clarkson continued to chip away and was down by just four (59-55) after Malaquias Canery buried a pair of free throws with 1:49 to go. Unfortunately, the Knights would get just one more point and Union went 4-for-4 from the line in the final 30 seconds to clinch the win.

Senior Felix Abongo recorded his second double-double of the weekend with 13 points and 10 rebounds to go along with three assists, while Drew Zlogar (13 points, 7 rebounds) and Derek Hart (12 points, 4-for-6 shooting) contributed solid efforts off the bench for the Knights. For Union, Burgess led all scorers with 29 points, going 10-for-15 from the field and 7-for-9 from the line, while William Hython scored 13 points.

Union is back home at the Viniar Athletic Center Friday night to host Vassar at 8 p.m.
