ITHACA, NY – Kelly Robichaud hit three home runs on Wednesday as the nationally-ranked Ithaca College softball team swept the visiting Union College Dutchwomen at Doris Kostrinsky Field. With the wins, No. 19 Ithaca moved to 29-7 overall while Union falls to 7-21 on the season.
The Bombers got things started in the second inning of the opener when Hannah Anderson doubled to right-center to score Robichaud to give Ithaca a 1-0 lead. Ithaca would add to its lead in the third inning with three runs on four hits including back-to-back home runs by Casey Gavin and Robichaud to take a 4-0 lead before Emily Bloom scurried home on a wild pitch in the fourth inning to stake Ithaca to a five run lead.
In the fifth and deciding inning, Robichaud led off with her second homer of the game and seventh in her last nine contests to make it 6-0 before Jessie Fleck and Bloom each drove in a run to give the Bombers an 8-0 lead. Laura Quicker earned the win for Ithaca in the circle to move to 13-3 on the season after allowing just two hits over five innings of work. The senior pitcher fanned two in the win.
Kim Puzo and
Brianna Godlewski had Union's hits. Ithaca had 10 hits overall led by Robichaud's 2-for-3 effort. She also drove in a pair and scored three runs.
Robichaud continued a big day in the nightcap as the senior catcher went 2-for-3 again with two more RBI and solo home run. RBI-singles by Robichaud and Nikkey Skuraton gave the Bombers a 2-0 edge through two innings before the Bombers erupted for six runs on six hits in the fourth. After Bloom scored on a throwing error, Ithaca would take a 4-0 lead when Fleck grounded out to second base which allowed Skuraton to advance home, then Allie Colleran and Robichaud would hit consecutive home runs to put IC up by seven runs. Bloom would plate the deciding run with a double to left that scored Alex Wright.
Allison Macari allowed just two hits and no runs over five innings. The senior struck out eight to earn her 11th win of the season.
Molly O'Brien and
Kelly Breslauer each had a hit for the Dutchwomen.
Union ends the regular season Saturday with a Liberty League doubleheader at Clarkson.
