AMSTERDAM, N.Y.—The Union College baseball team will be playing for its second Liberty League Championship in three seasons after posting a 3-1 win against Clarkson University Saturday afternoon at Shuttleworth Park.
The Dutchmen (25-12), who have won eight straight, will face Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in the Liberty League Final at 11 a.m., Sunday, May 15. If necessary, a second game will be played 30 minutes after the conclusion of Sunday's first game.
Sophomore
Jake Vesling threw just 95 pitches in a five-hit complete game, allowing one earned run while striking out three and walking none for his first win of the season.
Eric Egan led the Dutchmen offense, going 2-for-4 with a double, a run scored and two RBIs.
The Golden Knights struck first, jumping out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first when Greg Jasek plated Anthony Padrazo with a single to right center.
Union answered in the fourth, taking the only lead it would need.
Jake Fishman led off the inning with a single to left and
Kent Curran followed with a double. Egan cleared the bases in the next at-bat, driving a double down the left field line.
Jamie Faber extended the Union lead in the six, driving in Egan with an RBI single to center. Vesling cruised in the second half of the game, surrendering just two hits over the final five innings.
Will Coleman was tagged with the loss for Clarkson, allowing three runs (three earned) on seven hits with seven strikeouts and one walk over seven innings.
