Dutchmen Fall to top-seeded RIT in Liberty League semifinal

ROCHESTER, N.Y.—The Union College men's lacrosse team fell to top-seeded RIT in the Liberty League semifinal on Saturday afternoon. The Tigers outscored the Dutchmen 21-9.

RIT and Union went back and forth in goal scoring for the first seven minutes of play. RIT scored first followed by a Union goal by Sean Hanley, who was assisted by Daniel Kycia. The Tigers added another goal to the scoreboard and the Dutchmen followed suit. Union's goal was scored by Nolan Stauffer and assisted by Lance Lonergan. Rochester Institute of Technology scored two back-to-back goals, while Union's Peter Richardson found the back of the net to close the gap to one. In the first period, Cole Gendels made 12 saves and Union trailed 4-3 going into the second quarter.

The Dutchmen scored first going into the second. Sean Pensavalle popped one in off an assist from Kycia. Union tallied an additional goal in the second period. Thomas Stanton got the pass from midfield, sprinted down and ripped one into the back of the net. RIT recorded seven goals in the second and led 11-5 at the half.

The Tigers scored first in the third quarter, but Union rallied right back as Stauffer found Richardson for another point on the scoreboard. RIT scored two back-to-back goals before Union's Kycia found the back of the net off an assist from Paul Alberti.

Union trailed 15-7 going into the fourth. RIT scored two early goals, before Kycia bounced one in off the side of the net off the side from a Stauffer assist. John Edmonds scored the last goal for the Dutchmen, which was assisted by Jordan Cooper.

Kycia and Stauffer each finished with four points, Tom Lawton went 15-30 from the faceoff X with 5 groundballs. Hanley and Slatton each recorded four groundballs while Michael Froman had two caused turnovers.

The Dutchmen finish the season with a 9-7 overall record. The men's lacrosse team averaged 11.25 goals per game. This is the last game for seniors Alberti, Sam Broda, Daniel Caiola, Hanley, Adam Johnson, Cam Slatton, Stanton and Stauffer.
