SCHENECTADY, NY -- Wade McNamara had 16 points and 11 rebounds and
Deshon Burgess scored 21 points as the Union College men's basketball team defeated Bard College, 83-56 in a Liberty League game at the Viniar Athletic Center Friday night. The Dutchmen evened their season record (7-7) and league mark (3-3) while the Raptors stand 2-13 overall and 0-6 in the league.
McNamara's 11 rebounds were a game high and he posted his sixth double-double of the season. All 11 of his boards came on the defensive end. Burgess scored 20+ points for the sixth time this season and third straight game, making nine of 12 shots. Union had just 10 turnovers and shot 53% with a slight 35-33 rebounding edge.
Matt Liquori scored seven off the bench. A total of 11 players scored for Union.
Chris Lockwood had a team high 14 points and joined Armando Dunn with a team leading six rebounds for the Raptors. Bard shot 41% for the night and got nine points from Dunn, who also had five assists.
It was a five point lead for Union at 23-18 with 9:24 left in the first half. But the Dutchmen went on a big run of 16-2 over the next 4:05 and had a 43-26 lead into the half. Bard got as close as 13 with 10:50 left on a layup by Dunn, but the Dutchmen got it up to 21 after a layup by McNamara made it 68-47 with 6:22 to play. Union's largest lead was the final, coming on a
Mike Palleschi layup with 1:40 remaining.
The Dutchmen play at arch rival RPI Saturday at 4 p.m.
