Dutchwomen comeback for 57-41 win over Clarkson

SCHENECTADY, NY -- Union College outscored Clarkson University 25-6 in the third period en route to a 57-41 women's basketball victory over the Golden Knights at the Viniar Athletic Center Saturday afternoon. The Dutchwomen are now 2-2 in the Liberty League and 6-6 overall while the Golden Knights stand 2-1 in the league and 7-5 for the season.

Nicole Conley had a team high 14 points, tying her career high, and eight rebounds while Erin Lyons scored 13 and Abby Katz had a team best nine rebounds. Union shot 53% in the thrid period and 36% for the game, and had a strong 46-34 rebounding advantage. Juliauna Dunlop added four assists for the hosts.

Devin Sorell led all players with 15 points for the Golden Knights, and Madison Shea and Stephanie Grobe had six rebounds each while Shea had a game high four steals.

The guests jumped out to a 9-0 with 5:29 left in the first period and held Union to 19% shooting while shooting 50% in the period for a 15-7 lead. But the Dutchwomen took their first lead on a three pointer by Krystal Edwards with 2:36 left at 20-19 to cap a 13-4 run. Union led by three at 22-19 at halftime.

The third period was dominant for the Dutchwomen, as they outscored Clarkson, 10-0 in the first 9:38 capped by a three pointer by Lyons. After two free throws by Grobe made it a nine point game with 2:58 left at 34-25, the Dutchwomen went on a 13-0 run to end the quarter when Conley's layup made it 47-25. Union led by as many as 25 at 54-29 with 5:22 remaining in the game.

The Dutchwomen are at William Smith Tuesday in Liberty League action. Game time is 6 p.m.
