STORRS, Conn. – The Union College women's ice hockey team dropped game one to the UConn Huskies, 6-1 this evening.
UConn's offense would remain strong and steady in the match up, as they would score two goals per period throughout the night. Each of the Huskies' three pairs of goals would also happen just minutes after one another.
Within four minutes of each other in the first period, Huskies Morgan Wabick and Catherine Crawley would score back to back goals.
At the 11-minute mark in the second period, Brianna Colangelo would put the puck in the back of the net to put Union at a 3-0 deficit. Less than two minutes later Crawley would strike again to pull the Huskies closer to the victory.
With a power play in the third period, just under ten minutes to go, Colangelo would score her second goal of the night and UConn's fifth. Leah Lum would be the Huskies' final scorer of the night.
With the game at 6-0 with just three minutes to go, relentlessly,
Katie Laughlin managed to get past the Huskies' defense and net a goal of her own. Tonight's goal is the third of her career.
The Dutchwomen have room for redemption with tomorrow afternoon's rematch at 3 p.m.
