SCHENECTADY, NY – The Union College field hockey closed out the 2017 season in style with a 3-2 overtime victory over Utica College on Senior Day, this afternoon.
 
UC scored just after the seven minute mark as 
Sydney Scaccia received a pass, from 
Jessica Belt, and buried the first goal of the game. Before the game hit halftime, Union's 
Charlotte Leyland scored off of a 
Laura Wind assist to tie the game at 1-1. With neither team able to gain an advantage before the end of the half, the contest stayed tied at one-a-piece heading into the intermission. The goal would be Leyland's fifth this season.
 
In the second half, Utica's 
Joanna Gaertner  was able to break the tie. Gaertner gave Utica a 2-1 lead after she finished off a rebound around the net. Just three minutes later, and with only 13 minutes to go in regulation, 
Jenna Smith scored for Union to make the score 2-2. Smith's goal would be her fourth of the season, and with no one able to score before the end of regulation, the game went into overtime.
Wind recorded the game-winning goal, to hand Utica the 3-2 loss. Wind would net her third of the season off of a corner. 
 
The Dutchwomen out shot the Pioneers 33-18 in the contest and earned 18 penalty corners. Goalkeeper, 
Heather Poisson, made 12 saves in the contest in the last game of the season.
