Union’s season ends with 0-0 tie

SCHENECTADY, NY – The Union College women's soccer team was all over RIT in its final game of the regular season, out-shooting RIT, 16-5, but the Tigers did not concede an inch and forced 0-0 tie on Saturday at College Park Field.

With the tie, and other results in the Liberty League, the Dutchwomen finished eighth in the league and narrowly missed out on a playoff spot. Union finished the 2017 season with an 8-5-3 (3-4-2 LL) record. The Tigers finish 11-3-3 (4-2-3 LL) on the season and claimed the No. 3 seed in the playoffs.

The first half of the contest was fairly evenly matched, as neither side landed a shot on target. In the second half, Union out-shot RIT, 4-2, with shots on net being 2-1 in favor of the Dutchwomen.

In the two 10-minute overtime periods, Union more than doubled its shot total from the first 90 minutes, looking for the winning goal. The Dutchwomen had nine shots, two on net, during the 20 minutes of OT.

First-year keeper Alison Sorkenn was in net for Union, making one save for her second-straight shutout. Kelly Rogers made four saves in net for the Tigers.
