SCHENECTADY, NY – The Union College men's basketball team easily downed Hunter College, 88-51, in the first day of the 2017 Sig Makofski Invitational on Saturday evening at the Viniar Athletic Center.
Â
Union is now 2-0 to start the season and will play for the invitational championship tomorrow against Westfield State, who defeated FDU-Florham in the first game of the day.
Â
The Dutchmen were led by
Kevin Weckworth and
Kevin McNoble. Weckworth led the team with 18 points, hitting 8-of-16 from the field, including one three-pointer, while McNoble was a close second with 17 points, but four of his five field goals were from behind the arc.
Â
Hunter's only leads of the contest came in the opening minutes, as the Hawks held leads of 2-0 and 4-2. But after that the Dutchmen pulled out in front and would remain solidly in the driver's seat for the rest of the game.
Â
Union shot 48.6-percent in the first half to take a 49-23 lead into the locker room.
Â
In the second half it was much of the same story as Union kept its foot on the pedal, and the Dutchmen led by no less than 27 throughout the entirety of the half.
Â
Union returns to the hardwood tomorrow evening to take on Westfield State back at the Viniar Athletic Center at 4 p.m. (ET).
