Men's Basketball Falls to Skidmore 88-78 at Viniar

SCHENECTADY, NY - The Union College men's basketball team fell at the hands of Liberty League foe Skidmore College Saturday night at Viniar Athletic Center.

After Union held an 11 point advantage at the halftime break, Skidmore's offense exploded for a 61 point second half to grab an 88-78 victory on the road.

The Dutchmen would jump out to an early lead behind a 12 point and eight rebound first half performance by senior guard Deshon Burgess. They would extend their lead to as much as 13 points before taking a 37-26 lead into the half. Burgess finished with a team-high 27 points and nine rebounds in the loss.

Union clung to its lead through the first ten minutes of the first half before a three pointer by the Thoroughbreds Jack Bryne with 8:08 left in the game game them their first lead since being up 2-0. Skidmore would not give up the lead for the rest of the game stretching its lead to double digits with 2:50 remaining in the game.

In the second half, Skidmore shot 72 percent from the field including 8-of-10 from beyond the arc. Edvintas Rupkus finished with 32 points on 10-of-13 shooting while Jack Bryne added 22 points on 8-of-13 shooting.

The Thoroughbred pair combined for 10 three pointers in their win.

Union will be back on the court next weekend when it travels to Rochester to take on RIT. Tipoff is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. on Feb. 17th.
