HAMDEN, CT – In the final regular season game of the season, the Union College women's hockey team fell to No. 10/10 Quinnipiac despite a career-high 49 saves from first year goalie Amelia Murray.
The lone goal of the game came in the second period when Quinnipiac's Abby Cleary cleaned up a rebound chance at the 9:04 mark of the first. Despite a late 6-on-4 chance with a minute and a half remaining in the game for Union, the Bobcats would hold on to win 1-0 Saturday afternoon in Hamden, CT.
Behind a 19 save performance by Union first year goalie Amelia Murray, the Dutchwomen shutout the Quinnipiac offense through the first period of play.
Union killed off the only powerplay opportunity of the period as Murray made two stops on the while first year forward Katelynn Russ and junior defenseman Brandy Streeter got in shooting lanes blocking a shot a piece.
The game remained scoreless midway through the second period. That changed when the Bobcats Abby Cleary knocked in a rebound goal at the 9:04 mark of the period. The goal was assisted by Emma Greco and Melissa Samoskevich.
Union's best opportunity in the game came in the second period when Russ made a move along the right wing boards and sent a centering pass to first year forward Cheyenne Harris. Harris tried to poke the one time chance past Bobcat goalie Sydney Rossman but, Rossman smothered the puck to keep the Dutchwomen scoreless.
The Dutchwomen finish their first season under coach Josh Sciba with a record of 5-28-1 (2-19-1 ECAC). This is the most wins for Union since 2013-14 and the third time in program history that the Dutchwomen had multiple conference wins in a season.
Seniors Alli Devins, Kathryn Davis, Emily Erickson and Eastyn Yuen played their final game in the Garnet and White totaling 463 games combined for the class of 2017.
