Hannah Rosenberger and senior attack
Jackie Hagopian scored three goals each as the Union College women's lacrosse team secured an important Liberty League victory over visiting Rochester Institute of Technology, 13-10 at Frank Bailey Field Friday afternoon.
With the win, the Dutchwomen (5-8 overall) are now an even 4-4 in Liberty League play, while the Tigers (8-7) fell to 3-5 in league play. Union is tied with Rochester, RPI and Vassar for fourth place (the final playoff spot) entering Saturday's action, and hosts Rochester at 2 p.m. for Senior Day. Vassar faces 5-3 St. Lawrence while faces 6-2 Skidmore. RIT is at league leading William Smith Saturday.
Hagopian also had three shots, all on net, and a draw control while Rosenberg had four shots, all on net, with a draw control.
Ramsey Walsh had two goals and six shots and
Julia Pfohl had two goals and an assist.
Kellie Cronin had three assists and
Natalie Sullivan caused three turnovers with a goal.
Mallory Toolan and
Cailin Pandolfi also scored for the Dutchwomen.
Sydney DaCosta led RIT with three goals and five shots (four on net). Three of her scores were on free positions. Sammy Ward had a tem high six shots with two goals and Emily Livecchi added two scores with four shots and a caused turnover. Cassie Swan, Nicole Bingo and Alanna Fallone each had a single tally and Swan caused two turnovers and had three draws. Ward had a game best six draw controls.
Union senior
Jen Hughes made seven saves, five in the second period. RIT's Elizabeth Hughes made seven saves in over 41 minutes while Rebekah Snitkoff stopped on in 18:50 of play. RIT won 13 of the 25 draws while Union had a slim 26-25 shot advantage. The Tigers converted six of 11 free position shots and Union was two for four. The hosts had a 14-13 edge in ground balls.
Union scored the first two and it was tied at 2-2 midway through the first half before the Dutchwomen had a 5-2 lead with 13:23 left. RIT pulled to within 5-4 and it was a see saw final nine minutes of the first with Union up 7-6 at halftime. The Dutchwomen took a four goal lead at 10-6 with 18:10 left but RIT got to within 10-8 and 11-9 with 13:38 to play. But a Rosenberger free position tally with 13:05 opened it up to a three goal lead. DaCosta made it 12-10 with 8:30 to play but Union sealed it with 2:59 left on a Toolan score for the eventual final.
