SCHENECTADY, NY -- Stephanie Caudle picked up both pitching victories to lead the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) to a Liberty League softball sweep at Union College's Alexander Field Saturday. The Engineers won the opener, 11-0 in five innings, and won the nightcap, 4-2. RPI is now 22-10 on the season and 8-2 in the league while the Dutchwomen fell to 4-23 overall and 0-10 in league play.

Brianna Godlewski.
In the opener, Caudle struck out two and did not give up a hit or walk in two innings and ended her busy day with a record of 11-4. Sarah Harms pitched the final three innings and gave up one hit while striking out five. Caudle also had two hits and four home runs. Both of her hits were home runs, a three run shot in the first and a solo blast in the fourth, giving her seven on the season. Cam Caswell also had two hits with three RBIs and Chelsea Elliott added two hits for RPI, which had nine hits overall. The guests scored three in the first and five in the second, and after the homer in the fourth scored twice in the fifth.
In the second game, RPI scored twice in the sixth to break the 2-2 tie. Caudle came in for the win in relief with 2 2/3 innings of work, allowing two hits and striking out four.
Dana Dolinko took the loss for Union, allowing four runs and striking out six in seven innings. Caswell, Christine White and Victoria Greco had three hits each and RPI had 12 hits overall.
RPI made it 1-0 on an RBI double by Maddie Provencher in the second, and took a 2-0 lead on an infield fielder's choice RBI by White scoring Caswell in the second. But Union tied it at 2-2 in the bottom of the fifth. With one out,
Kara Brown had an RBI single scoring
Carli Voellm from second and she later scored on an RBI double by
Courtney Casey. Union had runners at second and third with two out but Caudle got out of the inning with a popout to short.
RPI scored two in the sixth for the 4-2 lead. Pinch hitter Allie Hunt and White had consecutive RBI singles with two out in the inning, while Caudle retired Union in the final two frames, including four strikeouts.
Union ends the 2017 season with a Liberty League doubleheader at Skidmore Sunday.
