Box Score 2 SCHENECTADY, NY - With key service runs and hard swings, the Union College volleyball team won both matches this afternoon as part of a double header feature in the Union Volleyball Crosstown Tournament.
Match One:
In Union's first match of the evening, the Dutch would take down College of New Rochelle, three sets to one, after lengthy back and forth rallies (25-19, 28-26, 25-27, 25-19).
Gillian Gore held the match high with 18 kills and
Brianne Hallock led the team's defense with 21 digs.
Sage Shimamoto had 43 assists and
Caroline Everts had the game high of four aces, along with several crucial service runs for the Dutchwomen.
Stephanie Libonati also added three aces to the victory.Â
Match Two:
The latter half of this evening's double header proved to be the strongest overall outing yet for the team. The Dutchwomen took down Mount Ida in three swift sets and held the Mustangs to no more than 14 points in all three sets (25-14, 25-14, 25-7). Shimamoto opened the match with an eight-point service run to quickly set the tone and pace for the rest of the match to come. Gore and
Julia Louis led the team with nine kills a piece and
Alaina Thaxter evened out the front line well, with her own five kills.
Katie Moss had three big blocks at the net as well.Â
Shimamoto and Meagan Teets split up the dishing in match two, Shimamoto carried 18 assists while Teets provided 11 of her own to the Dutch's offense.Â
Stat of the Day
.323 - As an entire class, the Dutchwomen's eight first-year student-athletes are swinging for a combined .323 attacking percentage.Â
The Dutchwomen have a quick turnaround with the continuation of the Crosstown Tournament tomorrow morning at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. at the Viniar Center.Â
