Box Score SCHENECTADY, NY - The Union women's soccer team improved its record to 2-0 with a shutout win over Bridgewater State University this afternoon.
With its second shutout of the season, in as many games, the Dutch defeated the Bears three goals to none. Goalkeeper
Kelsey Hartsoe collected seven saves on the day. Early on in the game, Union put pressure on BSU's end of the pitch and a header from Linsey Giles was saved by goalkeeper Lauren DeSousa.
Katie Monahan finished the piece after DeSousa deflected the initial shot to put the first goal of the afternoon away.Â
The next goal would not come until the 68th minute when
Emma Marlow-Benedick created a set piece, passed off to
Maya Stevenson who then delivered a crisp pass to
Christine Hill. Hill legged out a breakaway and beat DeSousa in a one-on-one. Hill's speed would come in handy once again for the Dutch, as Monahan delivered the ball to Hill, in the 89th minute, and she would once again find herself in a breakaway to complete the third goal of the afternoon.
Though the game seemed to even out in terms of possession and shots on goal (Union, 9 BSU, 7), the Dutch seemed to capitalize on key opportunities that ultimately delivered them the second win on the weekend.
The team returns to action this Tuesday, Sept. 5 at 7 p.m. on College Park Field to take on Plattsburgh State.
