SCHENECTADY, NY - In tonight's opening conference play, the Liberty League matchup between the Union women's volleyball team and Clarkson University resulted in a 3-0 loss for the Dutch (20-25, 25-27, 21-25).
Union (6-8, 0-1 LL) struggled from the end line in tonight's match tallying six service errors, along with an unusually quiet night for the Dutch's attackers. With the exception of
Stephanie Libonati, the Dutchwomen swang .136 attack percentage. Libonati led the team in percentage with .316 on 7 kills in 19 attempts.
Sage Shimamoto dished 33 sets, a match high, and gave the Dutch a momentum swing with late in the second set with a huge solo block at the front line. It was Shimamoto's first solo block of her career.Â
Clarkson's defense at the net was unmatched by Union. The Golden Knights shut down the Dutch's offense with 17 blocks. Â
Stat of the Day:
9 - The Dutchwomen are 1-9 in matches where they lose the first set of the match. Thus far, their only victory after dropping the first set was a 3-2 victory against Williams College, on Sept. 8.
The Dutchwomen return to action tomorrow with a Liberty League competitor, St. Lawrence at 1 p.m. and faces off against Rochester at 3 p.m. Both matches will be held in the Viniar Center.Â
