Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Dutchmen drop game to Vassar

SCHENECTADY, NY - The Union College men's soccer team remains winless in Liberty League competition with today's loss to Vassar College, 2-0.

The first half was quiet, as no goals were scored and only six shots were taken between the two teams. Union had opportunities towards the end of the first, with three consecutive corner kicks. However, the Dutch were unable to capitalize and the half ended at a 0-0 stalemate.

Vassar came out strong in the second half, moving quickly and drawing the ball across both sides of the pitch. Six minutes into the second half, Jose Novas from Vassar took a shot that hit off the post and he picked up the rebound to ultimately put the ball in the net. Vassar went up 1-0 and would remain in the lead for the rest of the day. Ethan Strauss would threaten Vassar's lead when he headed a cross from Salvador Lopez Jr. that hit off the post and went out of bounds. With 11 minutes to go in regulation Tyler Gilmore of Vassar would head the ball off a cross from his teammate and get it past Union's keeper, John Weitzman, and lock the win.

Weitzman had six saves on the day as the Dutchmen move to 0-2-1 in Liberty League play.

Union returns to action on the road at SUNY Poly, Oct. 3 at 6 p.m.
