Dutchwomen battle for a draw with No. 6 Cornell

ITHACA, NY - After a back-and-forth battle between the Dutchwomen and No. 6 Cornell, Union forced the Big Red to a 3-3 draw.

Katelynn Russ scored in the eighth minute of play tonight, giving Union the early 1-0 lead against the Raiders. With just under five minutes to go in the first period, Cornell settled the score with a goal of its own.

At the start of the second, Union earned a power play and capitalized on the opportunity. With 18:08 on the clock, first year Megan Ryan scored on assists from Ava Reynolds and Russ. Union took the 2-1 lead on Ryan's goal and would maintain the lead until late in the third period.

With 12 minutes left to play in the game, Cornell's Kristin O'Neill tied up the game at two goals apiece. Less than two minutes later, Cornell scored again and took its first lead of the game.

At the 1:28 mark, Union pulled netminder Amelia Murray and managed to score with the extra attacker. Russ scored her second of the game and brought Union back to a 3-3 game with Cornell, pushing the game into overtime.

Despite the extra five minutes of play, Union would have to settle for a tie against the No. 6 team in the country.
