SCHENECTADY, N.Y. - The Union College men's basketball team outscored Northern Vermont University-Lyndon 62-28 in the second half in cruising to a 101-59 victory on day one of the Sig Makofski Inviational, held on Saturday afternoon at the Viniar Athletic Center.

With the win, Union (2-0) advances to the championship game, where the Dutchmen will face off with Westfield State University in a rematch of last year's title tilt. The Owls will go for a second straight title after defeating Castleton University 76-52 in Saturday's first game.

Fourteen different players scored for Union on the day, led by freshman Mike Concannon with 16 points on 7-of-11 shooting to go with seven rebounds and five assists. Junior Kevin Jefferson chipped in 14 points and senior Ben Lee hit 5-of-6 shots to finish with 12 points in just six minutes of action, while sophomore Andrew Laub just missed a double-double with nine points and a game-high 11 boards.

After leading by as many as 11 points during the first half, Union took control of the game with a dominant second stanza, hitting 22-of-34 shots (64.7 percent) from the field and a scorching 11-of-16 (68.7 percent) from beyond the arc. For the game, Union shot the same 56 percent from the field and from three-point range, hitting 39-of-70 shots and 15-of-27 from long range.

In addition to shooting well, Union also controlled the glass all game long against Lyndon, posting a 57-28 edge in rebounding.

After Union went into halftime with a 39-31 advantage, Lyndon got within seven points early in the second half on a three-point play from Ricky Shuford. However, the Dutchmen followed with an 11-0 run over the next 1:38 to quickly grab a 55-37 advantage. The visitors did not get closer than 17 the rest of the way, when sophomore Jackson Mannix answered a three with one of his own to start another 10-0 run that gave Union a 73-46 lead with 10:49 on the clock.

The Dutchmen cruised the rest of the way, leading by as many as 44 points after a pair of free throws by junior Giuseppe de Spuches put the home team up 101-57 with 1:56 remaining.

The 101 points are the most scored by the Dutchmen in regulation since putting up 102 in the first 40 minutes of a 110-108 (OT) win at St. Lawrence University on February 22, 2017. The last time Union reached triple figures at home was in a 108-99 win over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute on January 28, 2012.
