Union knocks off league champs on the road

GENEVA, NY – The Union College men's basketball team completed the season sweep over Hobart with an 80-77 road win against the Statesmen on Saturday evening at Bristol Gym.

Even though Hobart had already clinched the regular-season championship, the Dutchmen have been the only Liberty League team to defeat the Statesmen this season, doing so in both meetings. With the win, Union finishes the regular season with a record of 16-8 (12-6 LL), while Hobart finishes 21-4 (16-2 LL).

It was a closely contested game, as Union jumped out to an 11-point lead early in the first half, but Hobart was able to erase its deficit and claim its own one-point lead at the end of the half.

Hot shooting by the Dutchmen was then the difference maker in the second half. Union shot 50-percent from the floor to outscore Hobart, 41-37, in the second half.

Junior Kevin McNoble led the Dutchmen with his first double-double of the season, scoring 28 points and nabbing 12 rebounds.

Three other Dutchmen were in double-digit scoring: Jackson Mannix (12), Aaron Gordon (11), Matt Liquori (10).

Union begins the postseason next weekend, Saturday, Feb. 24, in the semifinals of the Liberty League playoffs. The Dutchmen will face the winner between Vassar and RIT at 4:30 p.m. (ET) back at Bristol Gym in Geneva, NY.
